Khulani Training Facility

Tamasa Trading T/A Siyafundisa Training is a registered training provider and does the short course training and learnerships for the SAUPA members.

There are two registered learnership programmes that is carried out at Khulani Timber Industries (Kangela Training Centre).

The learnerships started on the 23rd of June 2014 and the first group of the learnership candidates at Khulani were twenty (20). Five employed learnership candidates completed the National Certificate: Wood Products Processing: Wood Preservation: Level 3 qualification, SAQA ID 48083, NQF Level 3 with 130 Credits in May 2015.

The other five has done the National Certificate: Forestry: Timber Harvesting Skidder: Level 3 qualification, SAQA ID 48988, NQF Level 3 with 122 Credits which was also completed in May 2015.

The ten (10) unemployed /external learnership candidates started on the 26th of August 2014 and completed on the 6th of March 2015.

The learners were also divided into two groups of which half were doing the Wood Products Processing: Wood Preservation: Level 3 qualification and the other half were doing the Timber Harvesting Skidder: Level 3 qualification.

The learnership programme is a one year programme but it’s compressed to six months for the unemployed candidate as they attend five days a week.

The learnership programme consist of Fundamentals, Cores and Electives which covers the basic mathematics, communication (English) and workplace activities.

The National Certificate: Wood Products Processing: Wood Preservation: Level 3 qualification is made up of 20 SAQA Unit Standards which adds up to 130 Credits.

The National Certificate: Forestry: Timber Harvesting Skidder: Level 3 qualification is made up of 25 SAQA Unit Standards totalling to 122 Credits.

The classroom lecturing and sessions are done by an experienced facilitator and the assessments are carried out by a registered Assessor followed by the internal moderation by a registered Moderator. The verifier from the FP&M SETA comes periodically to check the progress and upon successful completion of the learnership programme, the verifier will then decides whether all the criteria has been met for the qualification to be issued.

The second group of learnership was made up of 22 learnership candidates who started on the 9th of March 2015 and completed on the 2nd of September 2015.

All the learners had completed the Wood Products Processing: Wood Preservation: Level 3 qualification successfully and all the workplace practicals were covered.

Khulani Timber has employed five candidates who came through the learnership programme and we are striving to get these candidates jobs.

The third group of learnership consist of 15 learnership candidates. They started on the 4th of January 2016 and will be completed on the 7th of July 2016.

Mr William Mamhunga is a qualified facilitator /trainer, a registered assessor and moderator with the FP&M SETA and is carrying out the facilitation activities (Classroom sessions) and assessments of the learnership candidates PoE’s at Kangela Training Centre (Khulani Timber Industries). He also helps with the technical training of our supervisors and junior management team with the experience he gained in the past 9 years.

Mr Sello Motseo is a qualified facilitator/trainer and a registered assessor and he does all the short course training of Khulani Timber employees.

Mr Simon Manganye is a registered assessor and moderator with the FP&M SETA. He does our Internal moderation as per SETA requirements.
